Facial Volume Treatment – Q & A:

Although facial volume treatment sessions are bearable, we can apply a topical numbing cream 30 minutes before your appointment. It’s best to keep in mind that everyone has a different pain threshold and you know your body best. The discomfort experienced can also differ per treatment area.

You can start receiving facial volume treatment from the moment you begin seeing the signs of age, such as permanent lines and wrinkles. In most instances, men and women seek treatment from their early 30s onwards. Even patients in their 20s can receive receive the treatment, depending on their individual needs.

Facial volume treatments last anywhere from three to six months, but it’s possible for the results to last as long as 18 months.

The most common side effects occur immediately after treatment or within the first 24 hours after your session. Common side effects of facial volume treatment include bruising, swelling, redness and tenderness, all of which is very mild. Your skin therapist will provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to minimise any aftereffects.

While these two treatments are easily confused, there is a difference between them. Facial volume treatment is designed to add volume to areas such as the cheeks, lips and the area around the mouth. Wrinkle treatment is designed to reduce the appearance of expression lines and wrinkles. This is done by blocking nerve signals to the muscles that create these lines. Wrinkle treatments won’t freeze the muscle, they simply weaken the muscles. This may also prevent new lines from forming. Many patients choose to combine facial volume treatments with wrinkle treatments to treat multiple aesthetic concerns at the same time.

Directly after your treatment, your face will be cleaned but you won’t be able to apply makeup for at least six hours. It is also important that you not touch or rub the treated area for six hours. If you do apply makeup on the first day, mineral makeup is the preferred choice.

After your facial volume treatment, intense heat should be avoided, included direct sun exposure and saunas. Strenuous exercise and alcohol will also need to be avoided for the first day to ensure that the treatment takes effect correctly. There are certain medications and supplements that should be avoided for the first day – we will take you through these specifications during your consultation.

Lastly, facials, waxing peels and any laser treatments will need to be avoided for two weeks. Don’t forget to stay hydrated and wear a high SPF sunscreen to support and prolong your results.

While permanent facial volume treatments are available, it is important to note that they don’t last forever. While the name might indicate otherwise, permanent volume treatments usually last about five years. However, they’re generally not the most popular choice amongst patients. Permanent volume treatments are not advisable if this is the first time you’re trying facial volume treatment. It’s always best to start with a gradual volume increase to decide if you’re happy with the results.
