Information

Millions of people are concerned with vascular skin conditions. The Cutera Excel V laser system is an advanced and effective non-invasive approach to treating a wide range of vascular skin conditions including diffuse redness, facial veins, leg veins, periorbital veins, angiomas, port wine stains, poikiloderma, venous lake malformations

The Cutera Excel V as well as treating vascular lesions also treats bruising, inflammatory acne, surgical and trauma scars, and acne scars.

The Cutera Excel V laser system utilizes two laser frequencies to treat vascular skin conditions – these are 532 nanometers (KTP) and 1064 nanometers (Nd: YAG), allowing treatments to be tailored for individual vascular skin conditions.

The Cutera Excel V can be used to treat more than 20 common skin concerns including:

  • Diffuse redness
  • Spider and reticular veins
  • Leg Veins
  • Acne and acne scars

Leg Vein Treatment – Q & A:

Many skin conditions manifest in the form of broken or abnormal blood vessels in the skin, such is the case with rosacea, in which the facial blood vessels dilate excessively causing redness and flushing. Excel V treats these conditions by administering a high-power laser that is absorbed by the abnormal blood vessels in the skin.  The laser heats the abnormal vessels until they are removed.  At the end of treatment, the patient’s natural skin tone and colour are often restored.

In the case of leg veins and facial vessels the Laser delivers pulses of light energy which causes the blood within the vein to coagulate, eventually destroying the vessel which is later reabsorbed by the body. Blood flow is then redirected to veins deeper below the skin surface where it should be.

An initial consultation with your treating therapist will determined if the treatment with the Excel V is suitable for you. No topical or injectable anaesthesia is required. Generally, the handpiece is placed over the affected areas of the skin until the abnormal vessels start to change colour or diminish. To minimize discomfort and protect the patient’s skin, a cooling gel is applied to the skin pre-treatment and the Excel V uses a cooling system integrated into the handpiece.

All skin types in the Fitzpatrick skin-types classification can be treated with the Cutera Excel V system. The classification means 6 different skin types, ranging from very light (type I) to very dark (type VI). The 532nm is ideal for types I-III and the 1064nm mode can be used on all types I-VI.

Most patients experience minimal side effects after Excel V+ treatment, which may include temporary redness, bruising, or mild swelling at the treatment site. These side effects typically resolve on their own within a few days.

The number of sessions depends on various parameters, including the size, thickness and colour of the vascular lesion. Superficial vascular lesions such as small telangiectasia and diffused redness are easiest to treat. Some patients might see significant improvement from as little as 1-2 treatments. However, treatments can range from 1-6 treatments, with 1-3 being the most likely.

Maintenance treatments are required as needed.
