HydraFacial Sydney: Medical-Grade Hydradermabrasion at Mosman and Surry Hills

Some skin problems need a laser. Others just need a proper clean.

If your skin looks dull, feels congested, and has that tight, dehydrated quality by about 3pm, a HydraFacial is usually the treatment that fixes it fastest. It cleanses, exfoliates, clears out pores and floods the skin with hydrating serum in one session of roughly half an hour, and you can walk straight back out into your afternoon with nothing to hide.

We have run genuine HydraFacial MD at Infinity Skin Clinic for years, at both our Mosman clinic on the Lower North Shore and our Surry Hills clinic in the inner city. Five treatment levels, a full booster menu, and therapists who will tell you honestly when a HydraFacial is not the right answer for what you have come in about.

What is a HydraFacial?

A HydraFacial is a medical-grade hydradermabrasion treatment. A patented handpiece uses vortex suction to lift debris out of the pores while simultaneously pushing serum into the skin, so exfoliation, extraction and hydration happen in the same motion rather than as separate steps.

That simultaneity is the whole point, and it is what separates it from a traditional facial. Older resurfacing treatments strip the skin and then leave you to recover. A HydraFacial replaces what it removes as it goes, which is why the skin looks plumper rather than raw when you get off the bed.

It is worth being clear about something the Sydney market muddles: “HydraFacial” is a specific device, not a category. Plenty of clinics advertise a “hydrafacial” performed on a generic hydradermabrasion machine. Those treatments may well be perfectly good, but they are not the same treatment, they do not use the same serums, and the results are not interchangeable. What we run is the genuine platform. If you want to see what it produces on real patients, our HydraFacial before and after gallery is worth a look.

How Does a HydraFacial Work? The Three Steps

Step one: cleanse and peel

A gentle resurfacing blend of glycolic and salicylic acid goes on first, loosening dead cells and softening the debris sitting in your pores so it will actually come out. There is no grit and no scrubbing. The exfoliation is chemical rather than abrasive, which is why it suits skin that reacts badly to a scrub.

Step two: extract and hydrate

This is the part patients remember. The vortex tip creates suction that draws blackheads, whiteheads and sebum out of the pores, and at the same moment infuses hyaluronic acid serum into the skin it is clearing. Most people describe it as an odd but not unpleasant vacuum sensation across the nose and chin. If your skin is very congested, that part can feel a bit sharp for a few seconds.

Step three: fuse and protect

A serum loaded with antioxidants and peptides goes in last to nourish the skin and hold the hydration. Your therapist picks it based on what she found on your skin, not from a script. Someone with congestion and oil gets a different finish from someone whose main issue is dullness and pigment.

Start to finish, a Signature treatment runs about 30 minutes. No peeling, no flaking, no recovery window.

HydraFacial Treatment Levels and Prices in Sydney

There are five levels, and the honest advice is that most people do not need the top one every visit. If you are coming monthly to keep on top of congestion, Signature does the job. Step up when you have a specific concern you want the boosters working on.

On the boosters: the menu covers brightening for pigment, clarifying for congestion and breakouts, hydrating for dehydrated or tired skin, and firming and restoring options for early ageing concerns. Your therapist selects one at the appointment rather than asking you to guess from a list.

What Skin Concerns Does a HydraFacial Treat?

Because it both clears and feeds the skin in one pass, a HydraFacial helps with a fairly wide spread of concerns without irritating the skin barrier:

  • Congested and enlarged pores
  • Blackheads and whiteheads
  • Oily or breakout-prone skin
  • Dull, dehydrated or tired-looking skin
  • Uneven skin tone and rough texture
  • Fine lines and early signs of ageing
  • Mild surface pigmentation and sun damage
  • Sensitive skin that needs results without aggravation

What a HydraFacial will not fix

This matters more than the list above, because booking the wrong treatment is the most common way people waste money on skin.

A HydraFacial works on the surface and just below it. It will not restore lost facial volume, soften deep static wrinkles, or clear established pigmentation such as melasma or sun spots that sit deeper in the skin. It will not resolve inflammatory or cystic acne, and it will not improve acne scarring. For those concerns you are looking at laser resurfacing, Forever Young BBL, microneedling, acne and scarring treatment, or wrinkle treatment instead.

If you are not sure which camp your concern falls into, that is exactly what a VISIA Complexion Analysis is for. It photographs and measures what is happening below the surface, including UV damage, pigment and porphyrins, so the recommendation is based on your skin rather than on what you booked.

HydraFacial vs Microdermabrasion: What is the Difference?

Microdermabrasion physically sands the skin using crystals or a diamond tip. A HydraFacial uses mild acids and vortex suction instead, so it lifts dead cells away rather than grinding them off. The practical differences:

 MicrodermabrasionHydraFacial
Exfoliation methodMechanical abrasion (crystals or diamond tip)Glycolic and salicylic acid plus vortex suction
HydrationNone. It removes onlySerum infused during the same step as extraction
Sensitive skinOften too abrasiveGenerally well tolerated
Extraction of poresLimitedSuction-based extraction is a core step
DowntimeNone, though skin can feel rawNone, skin usually feels hydrated

Microdermabrasion still has its place, and for some skin it is perfectly adequate. For most patients asking us to compare the two, the HydraFacial is the more comfortable option and does more in a single session, because it hydrates while it clears rather than leaving the skin stripped.

Who is Suitable for a HydraFacial?

Almost everyone, which is unusual for a clinical treatment. It works across oily, dry, combination, sensitive, acne-prone and mature skin, and across all skin tones, because nothing about it relies on heat or light that could affect pigment. First-time patients and people maintaining results between laser appointments both do well on it.

There are situations where we will ask you to wait, or suggest something else:

hydrafacial treatment at infinity clinic in Sydney - 2 patients with clinic staff - image 003
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding, since some of the actives and boosters are not recommended
  • A known shellfish allergy, as certain serums may not be suitable. Tell us when you book, not when you arrive
  • Active skin infection, open wounds, or broken skin on the face
  • An active cold sore or herpetic rash
  • Sunburn or heavily sun-exposed skin
  • Roaccutane use, or recent use, which needs to be disclosed and discussed
  • Injectable treatment in the past two weeks, so the area is left undisturbed
  • Any diagnosed or suspected skin cancer or undiagnosed lesion on the face, which needs medical assessment first

Your therapist takes a medical history before your first treatment. If you are unsure whether a HydraFacial suits you, book a consultation and skin analysis and we will work it out properly rather than guessing.

What Results Can You Expect, and How Often Should You Have One?

You will see a difference the same day. Skin looks cleaner and brighter, pores look smaller, and makeup sits better the following morning. That immediate glow typically holds for about five to seven days.

Lasting change in texture, congestion and general skin health takes a course. Four to six treatments spaced monthly is the usual recommendation, after which most patients settle into one every four to six weeks to maintain it. Skin turns over roughly every 28 days, which is where that interval comes from.

If you are booking for a wedding, a formal or a holiday, book three to five days beforehand rather than the day before. Any minor redness has settled by then and the skin is at its best. Booking the morning of the event is a gamble nobody needs on that particular day.

HydraFacial Aftercare

There is no real downtime, but a few things for the first 24 to 72 hours will get you a better result:

  • Skip the gym, sauna, steam room and swimming pool for the rest of the day
  • Leave exfoliants, scrubs, retinol and acid actives alone for three days
  • Apply SPF 50+ every morning. Not just after treatment, but permanently, since UV exposure undoes skin work faster than anything else in Australia
  • Mineral makeup is fine straight away if you want it, though most people find they do not bother
  • Drink water. Hydration from the inside supports what the treatment did on the outside

Your therapist will talk you through home care and can set you up with medical-grade skincare to hold the results between appointments.

Combining a HydraFacial with Other Treatments

A HydraFacial leaves the skin clean, hydrated and primed, which makes it a useful first step in a bigger plan. We run two combinations as set treatments at Surry Hills:

HydraGenesis ($600): a HydraFacial paired with Laser Genesis, which addresses diffuse redness, tone and fine lines on top of the cleansing and hydration. A strong monthly option if your skin is both congested and reactive.

Clear Complexion Package ($580): a HydraFacial with China Doll laser to tighten pores and refine tone and texture.

Other pairings your therapist may suggest include Healite II LED to calm inflammation and support collagen, medical-grade skin peels for pigment and congestion, and dermaplaning for surface smoothness. Not everything can be done on the same day, and sequencing matters, so we plan it out rather than stacking whatever is available. There is more on how we approach this in our guide to stacking treatments.

Risks and What to Expect Afterwards

A HydraFacial is a low-risk treatment, but no cosmetic treatment is risk-free and it would be misleading to say otherwise.

Mild redness is the most common effect and generally settles within a few hours. Some patients experience temporary sensitivity or tightness, and occasionally a small breakout in the week afterwards as congestion that was sitting in the pores clears out. Rarely, a reaction to one of the serums can occur, which is why your medical history and allergies are taken before treatment. Results vary between individuals. Our risks and complications page covers this in more detail, and your therapist will discuss anything relevant to your skin before starting.

Why Choose Infinity Skin Clinic for HydraFacial in Sydney, Mosman (North Shore) & Surry Hills

Infinity Skin Clinic was founded in Mosman in 2004 by Dr Charles Cope, a Specialist Plastic Surgeon (AHPRA MED0001146826, MBBS Hons, BSc Med, FRACS Plast), a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and a member of both the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Australian Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons. Our Surry Hills clinic opened in October 2018. Two decades in, the clinical standards that apply to our laser work apply equally to a facial.

What that means in practice when you book a HydraFacial here:

  • Experienced dermal and laser therapists, not junior beauty staff. Our therapy team includes practitioners with 20 years and 15 years of clinical experience, alongside registered nurses who are also qualified dermal and laser therapists.
  • Genuine HydraFacial, not a lookalike device. A lot of what is advertised as a “hydrafacial” in Sydney is performed on generic hydradermabrasion machines. Worth asking any clinic you are considering.
  • Five treatment levels and a full booster menu, so the treatment is matched to your skin rather than to a single fixed protocol.
  • VISIA Complexion Analysis on site, which means we can measure your skin rather than eyeball it, and tell you when a HydraFacial is not what you need.
  • A clinic that can actually treat the alternative. If your congestion turns out to be inflammatory acne, or your dullness is pigmentation, you are already somewhere with lasers, LED, microneedling and medical oversight rather than being rebooked for another facial.
  • Transparent pricing, published. Every tier and add-on is on our price list, so you know what you are paying before you arrive.
  • Two locations. Mosman on the Lower North Shore, handy for Neutral Bay, Cremorne, Cammeray, Balmoral and North Sydney, and Surry Hills for the inner city, Darlinghurst, Paddington and Redfern.

Full credentials and registration details for every practitioner are on our team page.

Hydrafacial – Q & A:

A HydraFacial is a medical-grade hydradermabrasion treatment that cleanses, exfoliates, extracts congestion from the pores and infuses hydrating serum into the skin, all using a patented vortex handpiece. Unlike older resurfacing treatments, it replaces moisture as it exfoliates rather than stripping the skin. A session takes about 30 minutes with no downtime, and results are visible the same day. Available at our Mosman and Surry Hills clinics in Sydney.

At Infinity Skin Clinic, a Signature HydraFacial is $290, Deluxe with a targeted booster is $355, Luminous with Healite II LED is $370 at Surry Hills, Platinum with lymphatic therapy, booster and LED is $450, and Fire & Ice is $555. An eye and lip Perk add-on is $115. Across Sydney, genuine HydraFacial treatments generally run from about $225 to $400 depending on the protocol. Prices current July 2026 and subject to change.

A Signature HydraFacial takes about 30 minutes. Deluxe runs closer to 45 minutes with the booster serum, Luminous is around 45 minutes with LED, and Platinum takes about an hour because lymphatic therapy is performed first. Fire & Ice is also around an hour. There is no downtime with any of them, so you can return to work or go straight on with your day.

Most patients find it comfortable and describe the extraction step as an unusual suction or vacuum sensation rather than pain. If your skin is very congested, the extraction across the nose and chin can feel briefly sharp. The acids used in the first step can tingle. Mild redness afterwards usually settles within a few hours. Tell your therapist if anything feels uncomfortable, because suction levels can be adjusted during treatment.

Signature is the core three-step treatment: cleanse and peel, extract and hydrate, fuse and protect. Deluxe adds a targeted booster serum matched to a specific concern such as pigment, congestion or dehydration. Platinum begins with lymphatic therapy to reduce puffiness and support circulation, then delivers the full treatment with a booster plus Healite II LED. For monthly maintenance, Signature is usually enough. Step up when you have a particular concern to address.

Microdermabrasion mechanically abrades the skin with crystals or a diamond tip. A HydraFacial uses glycolic and salicylic acid with vortex suction instead, so it is gentler on the skin barrier and better tolerated by sensitive skin. The bigger difference is that a HydraFacial infuses hydrating and nourishing serum during the same step as extraction, whereas microdermabrasion only removes. One session of a HydraFacial therefore does more.

For a new patient, four to six treatments spaced about a month apart produce the most noticeable change in congestion, texture and overall skin health. After that, most patients maintain results with one treatment every four to six weeks, which matches the skin’s natural turnover cycle of roughly 28 days. Your therapist will recommend a schedule based on your skin at consultation rather than selling a fixed package.

We do not recommend it. Some of the actives used, including salicylic acid and certain booster serums, are not advised during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Let us know when you book so we can suggest a suitable alternative rather than turning you away on the day. There are gentler hydrating and oxygen-based options that are more appropriate during this period.

Yes, for virtually all of them: oily, dry, combination, sensitive, acne-prone and mature skin. It is also suitable across all skin tones, because the treatment does not use heat or light energy and therefore does not carry the pigmentation risks that some laser treatments do for deeper skin. The treatment is personalised through booster and serum selection rather than by changing the device settings.

It depends on the type. For congestion, blackheads, whiteheads and mild breakouts caused by blocked pores, a HydraFacial helps considerably, and a course usually helps more than a single session. For inflammatory or cystic acne, or for acne scarring, it is not the right treatment and we would direct you to our acne laser and scarring options instead. Booking a facial for inflammatory acne generally delays proper treatment.

Yes. Mineral makeup can be applied straight away if you want it, though many patients find their skin looks better without it for the rest of the day. Avoid retinol, scrubs and acid actives for three days afterwards, and apply SPF 50+ each morning. If your skin is slightly pink immediately after treatment, that usually settles within a couple of hours.

A full consultation is not mandatory, since your therapist takes a medical history and assesses your skin before the first treatment anyway. That said, if you are unsure which level suits you, or if your main concern might be pigmentation, scarring or wrinkles rather than congestion, a VISIA Complexion Analysis is worth doing first. It measures what is happening beneath the surface and prevents you booking the wrong treatment.
