It’s 12:30 on a Tuesday. You’ve got a lunch break, a slightly red, uneven complexion you’ve been meaning to address, and no appetite for peeling, hiding indoors, or explaining a swollen face at your next meeting. What Is Laser Genesis Treatment?

Laser Genesis treatment is a non-ablative laser skin rejuvenation treatment that uses a 1064nm Nd:YAG laser (a laser that produces a specific, deeply penetrating wavelength of light) to gently heat the deeper layer of your skin, called the dermis. That controlled warmth encourages your body to produce new collagen and elastin, the proteins that keep skin firm and smooth. Collagen stimulation is really the heart of what this treatment does.

Here’s the important part in plain English. “Non-ablative” means the laser does not remove or wound the surface of your skin. Ablative lasers, like Halo or ProFractional, deliberately vaporise tiny columns of the outer skin to resurface it, which gives strong results but comes with several days of recovery. Laser Genesis skips the surface damage entirely. It heats from within and leaves the top layer intact, which is why there’s essentially no downtime.

The Cutera Nd:YAG laser platform behind this treatment is FDA-cleared in the United States (the Cutera GenesisPlus system holds 510(k) clearance, indications include benign vascular lesions such as rosacea and diffuse redness, and the treatment of wrinkles), and the device we use is included on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG). Because the 1064nm wavelength targets water and blood vessels rather than melanin, it’s considered suitable for all skin types, including olive and darker tones. What Skin Concerns Does Laser Genesis Treat?

Laser Genesis is a versatile treatment, and it tends to shine with diffuse, spread-out concerns rather than isolated spots. Over a course of sessions, many patients use it to help with:

• Facial redness and rosacea. The gentle heat targets the tiny blood vessels that drive flushing and background redness, which can reduce vascular reactivity over a treatment course. It’s one reason Laser Genesis is a popular option for rosacea treatment in Sydney and for sensitive, reactive skin.
• Enlarged pores. As new collagen forms, the tissue around each pore opening tightens, so pores can look smaller and skin looks smoother. It’s a gentle approach to enlarged pores treatment.
• Fine lines and early wrinkles. Fresh collagen helps soften the fine, crepey lines that show up first around the eyes and mouth.
• Mild to moderate acne scarring. Laser Genesis can help with red or pink macular scarring (flat, discoloured marks) and shallow textural scars.
• Uneven skin tone and texture. It works on diffuse irregularities and overall dullness. It’s not the right tool for individual brown spots, though. For defined pigment and sun spots, our Forever Young BBL is usually a better match.

How Does a Laser Genesis Session Work?

A Laser Genesis session is refreshingly low-drama. Here’s what to expect from start to finish.

First, we cleanse your skin to remove makeup, sunscreen and any residue. Next, you’ll pop on protective eyewear, because eye protection is essential around any laser. Then your nurse passes the handpiece back and forth over the treatment area in smooth, repeated sweeps, gradually warming the skin. We commonly treat the face, and can also work across the neck and décolletage.

What does it feel like? Warm. That’s really it. Most people describe it as similar to holding your hand near a warm lamp, and many find it genuinely relaxing. There’s no need for anaesthetic, no needles and no numbing cream. A session usually takes about 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the areas treated.

There is essentially no downtime. Most people leave with a light flush that fades within an hour or two, and some skin stays faintly pink for a little longer. Makeup can go straight back on, and you can head to work or the school pick-up, the same day.

There’s very little prep, too. Arrive with clean skin if you can, and avoid retinoids and other photosensitising products for three to five days beforehand. Because it’s so gentle, Laser Genesis is a great “stacking” treatment, meaning it can be paired with other procedures in one visit. How Many Laser Genesis Sessions Do You Need?

A standard course is usually 4 to 6 sessions, spaced around 3 to 4 weeks apart. That spacing gives your skin time to respond and build collagen between visits.

How quickly you see change depends on your skin. Redness is usually the first thing to shift, and a fair few patients notice it after one or two visits. Texture takes longer. Collagen is slow to build, so the smoothing tends to show up around session three or four, which for most people falls between weeks six and twelve. Once the course is done, some patients book a top-up every six or twelve months.

Acne scarring can be a slower process and may need extra sessions. The honest answer is that everyone’s skin and goals are different, so at your initial skin consultation our team maps out a personalised schedule built around what your skin actually needs.

Laser Genesis vs Other Laser Treatments at Infinity Skin

We offer several skin lasers, and each does what it does best. Here’s how Laser Genesis compares.

Laser Genesis vs Moxi. Both are non-ablative and gentle. Moxi is a fractional laser, so it creates tiny microscopic treatment zones and comes with a few days of MENDS (the little dark flakes as skin renews), which makes it stronger for resurfacing and refreshing overall texture. Laser Genesis is fully non-ablative with no flaking, so it stands out for diffuse redness and rosacea, and for people who truly can’t take any downtime.

Laser Genesis vs Forever Young BBL. BBL works with broadband light and handles pigment and sun damage more directly, so it is usually our choice for brown spots. Laser Genesis suits redness that is spread across the face, and it builds collagen slowly over a course of sessions. Some patients have both, for different reasons.

Laser Genesis vs Halo. Halo is a hybrid device that pairs ablative and non-ablative wavelengths in one pass, so it resurfaces more deeply and requires roughly 3 to 5 days of recovery. Laser Genesis sits at the other end of that scale. Many patients use it to look after their skin in the months between bigger treatments.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Laser Genesis?

Laser Genesis is considered suitable across the full range of skin types, from fair through to olive and darker skin (Fitzpatrick I to VI). Other lasers carry more risk in deeper skin tones, which is one reason this treatment comes up so often in a city as mixed as Sydney.

You may be a good candidate if you have diffuse redness or rosacea-prone skin, enlarged pores, early signs of ageing or mild acne scarring. It’s also a favourite among busy people who can’t build recovery time into their week, and among patients who want a gentle maintenance treatment between more intensive procedures.

Laser Genesis isn’t right for everyone, though. We generally advise against treatment if you have active acne breakouts, an active skin infection in the treatment area, or if you’re pregnant. Recent isotretinoin (Accutane) use within the past 6 to 12 months, and certain photosensitising medications, are also important to discuss. That’s why a consultation with a qualified practitioner matters before you start.

What Results Can You Expect?

Laser Genesis delivers gradual, cumulative improvement rather than an overnight transformation, and that’s part of its appeal.

After a single session, many patients notice a fresher, more luminous complexion and a temporary calming of redness. After three to four sessions, people often see a more noticeable reduction in diffuse redness, refined pores and softer texture. After a full course of four to six sessions, the collagen-building effect has had time to work, and skin can look clearer and more even in tone.
