Wrinkle treatment

Information

Our wrinkle treatment can be used to treat a wide range of medical conditions and different types of signs of ageing that can show on the skin over time. Some of the most common include wrinkles, expression lines, excessive sweating (known as hyperhidrosis), migraines and teeth grinding.

The main cosmetic use for wrinkle treatment is to decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and across the forehead. Most of these wrinkles occur naturally but can also be caused by decreased skin elasticity and sun exposure. The habitual way facial muscles are used also contributes to the long-term formation of these lines.

While wrinkle treatment is most commonly associated with treating visible signs of ageing on the face, it has been used for medical reasons for well over 20 years. Conditions such as double vision, facial muscle spasms, uncontrollable blinking and cross eyes are all examples.

How Our Wrinkle Treatment Helps

A wrinkle treatment is designed to weaken the facial muscles (or the muscles in a particular targeted area). This works by blocking the signals between facial muscles and their relevant nerves. When it comes to decreasing the visibility of fine lines and winkles, it stops the muscles from frequently contracting, which causes the wrinkles to show.

This decrease in muscle movement may also help to stop new lines from forming, provided patients receive ongoing treatments. If fine lines and wrinkles are quite deep, they may benefit from another treatment, such as facial volume treatment or Fraxel Laser.

The ability to relax targeted muscles can also help to treat other conditions, including hyperhidrosis, migraines, teeth grinding, facial muscle spasms and more. The treatment can also be used to lift the outer eyebrow, reduce the muscle bands in the neck, and adjust the shape of the jawline.

Wrinkle Treatments

Our wrinkle treatments aren’t just for those who already have lines and wrinkles. By starting treatment early on, wrinkle treatments can delay and even prevent lines from setting in.

The treatment works by precisely targeting the muscles in the area and blocking the nerve signals, which causes them to relax and stop frequently contracting. Treatment time is quite fast, but will vary depending on the details of your treatment.
It is advisable to move the treated muscle for five to ten minutes after the treatment, as well as remain upright and not touch or rub the treated area for several hours. Touching the area too much could cause the treatment to spread to surrounding areas. After your treatment, you may notice some swelling and bruising in the area, which is normal.

The results of your wrinkle treatment will typically start to appear after about a week, with the effects lasting up to six months. The results often last longer with further successive treatments*. Complications are uncommon, however are not impossible. In around 2% of cases, partial eyelid droop can occur. The further possible risks of the treatment can be discussed during your consultation so that you are informed before proceeding with the treatment.

Wrinkle Treatment – Q & A:

A wrinkle treatment will start to take effect within three to 14 days and can last for three to four months. The body gradually metabolises the treatment over time, which happens at a different rate for everyone. It’s possible for the effects to last longer following a series of treatments.

Wrinkle treatment is primarily recommended for the treatment of crow’s feet, forehead lines and frown lines. However, it can also be used in other areas to achieve different results, such as on the brow area to lift the position of the brow.

Based on patient feedback, wrinkle treatment can be slightly uncomfortable, but keep in mind that everyone’s pain threshold is different. If you are concerned about discomfort, a topical numbing agent can be applied to the treatment area.

After your wrinkle relaxer treatment, you may experience slight redness and swelling. However, most patients are fine to go back to work directly after treatment. To reduce the risk of infection, you should avoid wearing makeup and engaging in any vigorous exercise for the first day following treatment.

Facial volume treatment and wrinkle treatments can both be used to treat signs of ageing on the face, and are commonly performed at the same time. While wrinkle treatments can reduce the appearance of lines that show when muscles frequently contract, facial volume treatment can add volume to specific areas of the face.
